Unable to import STL files since the latest update

Hi,

I am not able to import STL files as a mesh since the latest update. It does nothing and when I move the camera, the import dialog comes back. This happens infinitely.

I have followed all of the instructions here, including doing a full uninstall and reinstall. https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/File-operation-dia...

Is there another way to import STL files? I am stuck without being able to do this.

Can you Attach the *.stl file here for testing?

Hi, unfortunately, I don't get to the point where I can select an STL file, Windows explorer is never opened. I've attached a video to my original post which shows the issue I am having.

stl file

Where is your stl file?

On your hard drive?

On the cloud?

Forget Fusion 360 for a moment.

Let's resolve the stl file location and then Attach the file here.

The STL is on my local PC hard drive.

Let's move quickly on this - I have other work I need to get started on.

In addition to the stl file,

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

Are you Replying by email or are you using the internet web forum?

Attaching a file here should only take seconds.

Hi,

I sincerely appreciate you're offer of help, but how can this be an STL issue?

As per the video I attached to the original post, when I do Insert -> Insert Mesh and then click the Select from my computer button, nothing happens, I do not get a window selection context so I'm not able to select an STL to insert the mesh into the file. How can this possibly be acaused by an STL file?

File  -> Export doesn't launch the export dialog either.

Nor can I do Upload -> Select from my Computer, anything where it interacts with Windows doesn't work for me.

OK, now we are making progress towards identifying the issue.

This points to a Windows OS issue, nothing to do with Fusion 360.

I suspect that once the Windows OS issue is resolved this will also solve the Fusion 360 issue.

Can you create a video showing attempt to Drag and Drop your *.stl file from Windows Explorer (Win e) to a Reply in to this thread?

Yeah the drag and drop interface works, but not the "select from my computer" button. Video attached.

Can you Attach your *.stl file here? (Tip: This is a binary yes/no question.)

Attached are 3 random STL files, none of which I can import. Though I could have picked any of the hundreds of STL files I have, none of them work because this is not an STL issue and is a problem with the program itself. (Tip - all you're going to do is try them yourself, then come back and tell me that the STL files work fine on your installation).

Next step...

Can you now File>Export your printer enclosure.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

From an earlier post:

File  -> Export doesn't launch the export dialog either.

So I cannot export anything.

If it makes you feel any better, I've created brand new projects and tried to import an STL - nothing works, it's something outside the project/STL that is causing the issue. I'm perplexed as to why you keep asking for files when this is definitely not file related.

I think at this point, your best course of action is to use the Repair Option under the Fusion 360 Service Utility.  There is something obviously wrong with your Fusion 360 application on your system.  Here is a link to get started.  Within this link you will find a few ways to start the Service Utility.

Cheers, John, I've already tried all of the options under the service utility, including repair and reset (in fact I've done both several times already). I've also cleared the local cache and done a full removal and re-install of Fusion 360 but nothing I do seems to work 😞

So I cannot export anything.

So the issue is not really with stl, it is more basic than that.

I am not at my Fusion 360 machine again until the morning, but my next two questions will be about:

10 Editable Documents (I assume you are on free personal license)

and

going directly through the cloud drive rather than through Fusion to get the *.f3d file.

Edit: And a third question - have you been using two monitors and now only one? (Could the dialog boxes be off screen - on the now missing second monitor?)

Hi there, I'd like to weight in on this because I believe I am seeing the same problem but in MacOS.  I attempted the above on a MacOS, trying to import an STL file using insert mesh, but I am not even able to select an STL file let alone have it fail to import, the window simply closes as per my attached video as soon as I click on the "Select from my computer" button.  What are we missing?

thanks
