When I try to change parameters the software hangs up and doesn't open the command. I used the command earlier today. Any thoughts?

Hi @gmdimarzio88,
Can you share your model here and either provide a screencast of your session, or at least indicate which parameter you are changing, and to what value? It is probably something specific to this model and the parameter you are changing, so we'd need that info to really help you.
thanks,
Jeff
I'm trying to change an 8020 extrusion frame piece. Trying to change length with parameters so I can build assemblies more efficiently. I tried the change parameters command with 3 other models which I have used the command for before this evening with no issue.
Thanks for the model. I verified that it works for me, so it's not data-specific. So, exactly what happens when you select the Parameters command? Does the command not come up at all (meaning: you can't see the dialog)? Or, is Fusion somehow hanging so that you cannot interact with it at all? If you open a blank model, can you start this command? If you start the Parameters command, then hit ESC, can you perform other actions?
One thing to try, just in case it might help. Use the "Reset to Default Layout" command, and try again:
Jeff
The dialog doesn't pop up. The component highlights in blue along with the command icon. Nothing else comes up. Is there a background update effecting this?
OK, it sounds like the command is working, but maybe the dialog is hidden. Does ESC bring Fusion back OK? Let me look to see if I can find out how to bring the dialog back. Are you using multiple monitors? Sometimes the dialog loses track of where it should be if you use an external monitor, and then disconnect it.
I am on a laptop currently. Esc unhighlights the icon and seems to exit the command. I'm just not sure where the dialog is or how to unhide it. I've restarted the program, and my computer. None have helped. I've also tried minimizing and maximizing the window but that didn't help either.
OK, thanks again. First, try the "Reset to Default Layout" command above. I suspect that won't work for you, but it's worth a try, and easier than the next step.
If that doesn't work, the next step is to remove the file where this information is cached. If you are on Windows, I think this file is located in "C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options", (where you substitute your user name for <yourusername>) and is called "NMachineSpecificOptions.xml". You should be able to just exit Fusion, delete that file, and try re-invoking Fusion.
I'm flying a little blind here, because I'm on a Mac at home, so I can't really test that this will reset the parameter dialog. I'll keep looking, though.
Unfortunately, neither worked. I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling in the morning. Fingers Crossed
Rats, sorry that did not work. I'll ask the experts, and in case the install does not work, I should have a better answer in the morning, as well.
Jeff
OK, one more desperation try, if you are still up and willing... There is another file to try removing. This one is:
%AppData%\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options\[UserId]\NGlobalOptions.xml
Where [UserId] is some string of letters (different for every user). So, I would just go to Explorer, and type: "%AppData%\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options" in the address area, then go down one level to your user id, and delete NGlobalOptions.xml, and re-start Fusion.
Might be worth a try before uninstalling.
Jeff
This is happening again. I have deleted the files and it's working now, but this is a bug I wanted to bring up to be cleared up for the next update.
Thanks for letting me know, and sorry that this happened again.
We would also like to fix this bug ASAP. However, we have so far not been able to reproduce it. Without those steps, it becomes a challenge to fix it. There is already code in there that tries to force all dialogs to be visible (at one point, we had lots of problems involving an external monitor, and dialogs would try to remember their old positions, even if the external monitor was not attached), but those don't seem to work in your case. If you can give us any clues about how this occurs, what you were doing just prior to it occurring, and any other information you might think is useful, it would help.
One more request. If this happens again, before you delete that file, would you mind grabbing it and attaching it to a forum post? There might be clues in there about where Fusion thinks that dialog is, or how big, etc.
thanks,
Jeff
Unfortunately it seems to be random. I have only had this problem on my laptop, of which has only happened this week. My desktop has not had this issue. If the issues comes up again I will attach the file to the forum post. Thankfully, deleting the files has always resolved it. It has happened on a small model, of a single part, and with an assembly, so it doesn't seem to be model specific.
I had the same issue, this was the one that worked for me. However the "NGlobalOptions.xml" file was in multiple locations. It appeared in the %AppData%\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options folder and in the %AppData%\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options\[UserId] (Userid, is the random number and letters folder). Just deleting it from one of the folder would not work. The other random thing that happened when I would restart fusion is it would put me into offline mode. I would have to restart fusion to open any files because it would say it was unable to download the file form A360 and it wouldn't let me toggle it back to online mode, even though I was connected tot he internet( I was just working on this file and had saved it before restarting). (Note the Parameters button was functional int he default new design, I was just wanting to test in on one of my file). Once I restarted fusion, the second time after deleting the file from both locations, the Edit Parameters dialog returned to full functionality.
I had the same problem on my Surface Pro. This solution worked. (I just searched for the file name then deleted it ). Is there a fix in the pipeline?

I hope so. I switch from my home wifi to my phone's internet, and this happens all the time. It's soooooo frustrating. It takes more time to fix the issue than it does to get the work done I need to. If it takes me more than 10 minutes to fix it, I just switch back over to Inventor.
Hello,
This issue has happened to me twice in a couple of months on my laptop.
Renaming the file has got the parameter dialogue up again.
only 1 monitor on my laptop, but have 2 on my workstation.
Fusion crashed when trying to copy some components from one file to another, and then the parameter dialogue wouldn't open.
I have attached the offending files, hope these help.
Geoff
This is happening again. On a laptop without a second monitor ever connected. Just a heads up
Any updates on fixing this bug. It's annoying to have to connect a second monitor just to get the parameter window back. I would think with all these types of issues and things in the ideastation, they would be ahead of updates that change the UI colors. Updating for the sake of updating is the way of the world now. Updates should only improve the product IMO.
