Trying to Make a Conditional Motion Link

I am making a Power Take-Off mechanism, so I want to simulate the rotation of gears, but only when they are contacting. Currently, all of the gears run even if they are not touching because the motion link does not take into account where the middle gear is on its slider. Is there any way to make a sort of Conditional Motion Link to simulate this behavior?

Try separate Motion links for each pair of gears.

That is what I am doing, however, they all run even if the gears are not contacting. Is there a way to say they should only be linked from this value to this value on the slider?

Will need a pic or movie of what you have, and a description of what is needed, referring to what we see.
