Trying to have hole position calculated based on user parameters

I am trying to have the hole feature to calculate the position of the hole. I would like to have the hole position recalculated when changing one of the user parameters used to position the hole (fx)

When trying to input user parameters it works but is calculated only one time and the user parameters are gone next time I look at the hole position. It works for hole dept and hole size.

What am I doing wrong ?

hi,

I have tested it and can confirm the described behaviour.

it seems to work OK for me.  Am I doing something different?

If you try the following:

Make 4 user defined variables: width, length, holesize and holedepth of
say 100, 100, 5, 5mm
Make a square using the width and length var.
Extrude this square 5mm
Place a hole and give it the following variable values width, length/2,
holedepth, holesize as defined above.

Everything works fine !!!

Change the size of the length variable to say 200 and save. On my
installation the hole is no more in the middle and when checking the
values of the hole they are 100, 100, holedepth, holesize.
It seems that the distance propety of the hole is only calculated when
entering them and then the calculated values are used in the future
instead of recalculating the as with holewidth and holedepth.

Let me know if your installation are working differently.

It seems that if you enter the hole location parameters in the dialog box it does not work, but if you enter the values in the 2 small popup fields for the location of the holes then it works. In any case when looking at the values in the dialog box for the hole then only numeric values are found for the location not the formula. With hole depth and hole diameter works as expected and shows the user defined parameters in the dialog box!!!

If later the formula (user defined parameters) are changed in the dialog box instead of the small popup fields for the location then the formula/user defined parameters are lost !!!

Hi,

@jeff_strater

In the screencast I demonstrate that the parameterisation is lost when you enter the hole menu for editing.

Hi Guenther, thanks for the screencast 🐵 It is a little frustrating when I have entered formulaes for a bunch of holes and then afterwards realizing that they are all lost because I used the dialogbox which I think is quite a bit easier to use ;o)

Off topic which app did you use for your screencast, maybe next time I will make a screencast as well since it is more to the point.

Will this be entered as a bug or is there anything additional that I need to do in order to have this resolved in the future ?
