Trying (but failing) to Assemble>Joint Two Bodies

I am just trying to get one body (the upper one) to sit squarely on the top face of another body - the lower part.  I am trying to use Assemble>Joint.  When that menu opens I keep the (default) simple Mode.  Then I click on the bottom face of the upper part.  At that point sometimes the entire window goes mostly white but I can still see faint sketches of my bodies.  Other times I can select the bottom face of the upper body/part but then when I click on Select in the component 2 section of the menu/dialog then the entire window goes white as described above.

What am I doing wrong?  Is Assemble>Joint the wrong way to do what I am trying to accomplish?

Thanks,  Bob

You have two bodies in the same component call Snap in Part.  You cannot use assembly joints between bodies only components.  In the Screencast I show you how to make one body into another component under the top level and use a joint to connect them.  By the way, you have a couple of lost references showing in your timeline (yellow background) which should be corrected as they happen.  They will get you in trouble if you ignore the.

Model is attached.

Thank you very much John!  I need to apologize to you and others here for posting such a dumb question.  I mean the dialog does make it very clear that it wants two components.  A person of normal intelligence would have noticed that.  But I think that I am glad I did post the question because your text and video went well beyond answering my question.  Thanks too for using video software which includes mouse movements.

Thanks again!  Bob
