Trackpad vs. mouse framerate

When using the mouse to pan and orbit around a model the framerate is fine. However when doing the same operations on the trackpad (MacBook Pro 16") the frame seems to be cut in half. Even with an empty Fusion 360 project, this is the case.

Did anyone else experience a similar issue?

Cheers,

Rudi

Did no-one else encounter this issue?

I do see the same thing on my 2017 15" high spec MacBook Pro.

But I very rarely use the trackpad as there are other issues. FOr example, if you are in a loft dialogue, FUioosn 360 draws labels for the profiles and rails. There is a several-second delay between trackpad actions and movements in the viewport.

For me, that renders the trackpad mostly useless.

@Phil.E is this recognized as a problem?

Yes it's logged.

Hey @Phil.E ! Can you explain what exactly is logged?
The general trackpad framerate issue, or the delay when using the trackpad?

I think both issues should be logged!

Thank you and cheers,

Rudi

These are symptoms of the same issue, not different bugs. The trackpad orbit will cause extra "redraw" of graphics elements like loft tags.

Just as a reminder, the initially described low frame rate of the viewport when using the trackpad still persists. Are there any fixes in sight?

Best wishes,

Are you talking about low framerate, like it stutters when there are loft tags visible?

Or are you talking about low speed to orbit and pan?

If it's the former, no nothing has been fixed yet. If you still see that, it's because it's not fixed.

If it's the latter, turn up your trackpad speed. That's what other customers have reported as a solution. Let me know what you find.

I am talking about low framerate. In Rhino I have a crazy smooth 120Hz experience, in Fusion it is barely usable.

As you are mentioning it, the trackpad panning speed is also slow, can that be dialed up for Fusion 360 only, in some native settings or similar?

Hope the framerate issue gets fixed some day...

Best wishes,

Rudi

Currently you need to dial up the tracking speed at an OS level, but we're aware this is a shortcoming of our current Pan/Zoom/Orbit options.

When you pan do you see graphics effects turning off? If there is excessive frame rate drop, Fusion will turn off edge display, ambient occlusion, and object shadow when Pan or Orbit happens. I've seen some cases where this doesn't happen and orbit/pan can be impacted to the point of unusable.

Do you have time to post a video?

here is a video of the behavior (a little bit hard to see in the recording). First I am using the mouse (getting full 120Hz), then I am using the SpaceMouse (again super smooth), only when using the trackpad do I see the framerate drop

Initial investigation suggests that the trackpad event rate is lower than mouse and SpaceMouse, causing the movement to be choppier. At the least, we plan to address the trackpad movement speed in a future release to be more similar to the mouse pan experience.
