The view doesn't update when selecting a sketch plane

When creating a new sketch selecting a sketch plane, the view doesn't automatically go to the top like it used to.

In preference->Design-> "Auto look at sketches" is enabled. I tried to deselect it, applying and reselecting and reapplying, with no result.

you likely have "3D sketch" enabled.  This option disables "Auto look at".  Turn it off here:
