The marked files have invalid characters and cannot be uploaded; rename them

I am trying to upload Solidworks files (sldprt and sldasm), but once I choose the top file in the dialogue I get the error message "The marked files have invalid characters and cannot be uploaded; rename them".

Renaming the file does not change anything, I still get the error.

The filename is 02-55-00Mat.SLDASM and I don't see any invalid characters in that.

What could be the problem?

Hi,

Have you tried with a renamed file?

How about .SLDPRT files? Isn't there any invalid characters in their names?

For SolidWorks file not only the .SLDASM file (assembly) but also all the referenced . SLDPRT files will be uploaded. Now if you just rename the files from OS references may get lost, but if you have SolidWorks you can solve it there.

Simply renaming the files does not work. The references inside Solidworks have to be renamed, the whole assembly then exported anew. And that did finally the trick.

Thanks for the hint. I had a colleague rename all files with invalid characters in solidworks and then export it anew. That did finally do the trick!
Just a sidenote for anyone interested: an official autodesk help page lists all invalid characters but the list is incomplete.
In my opinion it is best to use the old DOS-rule in naming parts and files: only letters, numbers, hyphen and underscore.
