Strange sketch behavior

I am unable to add certain dimensions to this sketch, including areas where the sketch is not overconstrained.  As a sanity check, I drew a line in an open area and attempted to dimension distance to another line.  Fusion says this line is overconstrained - but it can't be.  Screencast below.

Thanks for any tips or ideas what is going on here.

I re-created the whole sketch and the same problem has taken over again.  It is driving me nuts! Has the bug team made any progress?  Can you suggest any workarounds for the short term?

Hello @Adam_Kreft

As a thumb rule, we recommend users to fully constrain the sketch. That should reduce the time taken while adding dimensions. We are working on the issue previously mentioned. But, in the sketch I can see that many of the sketch entities are not fully constrained.

Can you please give it a try for this approach?

Thank you,

Best Regards

Hello @Adam_Kreft

Just a small update on the original issue while we are working on a holistic solution, if you can delete and reapply dimensions with distances 38.828 and 48.031 then it should fix the slowness issue.

Thank you,

Rohit

Thanks to both of you for your help.  I finally got it working.

I believe the sketches were not fully constrained in the original constraint because they were not tied to a fixed point (the origin).  Each should be fully constrained relative to itself.  Hope that makes sense.

I was able to get it to work by separating each sketch entity into separate sketches, applying dimension relative to the origin, then proceeding with constraints and dimensions as usual until fully constrained, and finally removing the dimensions to the origin so I could move the sketches around and place them where I wanted.

I've recently retired from a major dental implant company that uses Inventor for it's CAD solution. Now, I'm trying to transfer my skillset to Fusion, but running into this same issue. I'm applying a dimension to a base sketch that's not very complex, but the software is forcing it to be a driven dimension, even though the line it is applied to is quite free to have it's length dragged longer and shorter. So, that's why I've found myself on this thread. It's difficult enough learning an interface that's so strange, but now I'm encountering behavior that struggles against a logical workflow; the solution of which seems to be to construct some arcane and temporary constraint structure to calm down the algorithms for long enough to be able to apply the real lengths. Besides being a complete waste of time, it's also a needless distraction from thinking about the design. For a CAD function that is so fundamental to the software, how can I help but wonder whether this is a serious move for me? I'm only just getting started with this software. What other peculiarities and workarounds await me?

Dan, you might have more luck getting a solution if you create a new post and attach your F3D file. There is likely some little thing you are overlooking that constrains the dimension. Projected geometry can cause this, but there are other possible causes.
