step model disappears when trying to heal plane

Hi

I created a housing around a STEP PCB model I got. I used planes offset to the faces of the connectors for most of my sketches.

We are doing two versions of this PCB but most of the connectors are the same, so I created another file where I deleted the PCB and imported the other one. Naturally, all the planes and sketches got 'sick'. So I wanted to reselect the connector on the new PCB. Strangely when I click on 'redefine sketch plane' or 'edit feature' all of the model disappears and I can only select the basic Origins. So I cannot reattach the sick planes. Is there a solution to this?

Thanks

Please attach your STEP model and your Fusion 360 model and show what you are exactly trying to do.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Do you have a Fusion 360 model that is intact BEFORE you replaced the circuit board with the new STEP one your supplied?  As I is, I cannot do much without it.

I have not given up the ship yet, this is a length process and it may take awhile, if I can do it at all.  I will let you know either way, I promise.

Ok, I have done the best I can do.  I had to rename your components to keep them straight.  They are (Old to New)

  • PCB - New Circuit Board
  • elolap - New Assy - Bezel
  • keret - New Assy - Cover

The assembly is named New Top Level Assy

You will find a lot of the existing sketches in the New Assy - Bezel are not constrained as I had to remove the reference to the old circuit board.  Everything is put together, as well as possible, there are some holes in the Bezel that do not match the new circuit board.

In the future, keep in mind that if you Project Geometry, and maintain links, that geometry must remain in place, even if it is hidden.  Also, keep in mind, all the components on the circuit board can move around so you need to make a rigid group of them to maintain position.  I used two assembly joints to hold all together with the circuit board being grounded. Model is attached.  I hope I helped some.

Thank you so much for your efforts and please excuse my late reply.

Are you saying in such a case I should have kept the old Pcb, hide it, and sorta align the new one to it?

I thought the ability to ‘heal’ such connections mean I can reselect new surfaces. I just don’t get why my new pcb disappears. I can’t even project it to create the new holes.

Normally you can heal missing sketch planes and some links but in your case you removed the linking model so yes, I am suggesting that you keep the old model and just hide it.  You probably deleted the other circuit board, next time try selecting it in the Browser and use Remove instead.  This function retains the needed geometry from the model you are removing.
