STEP export not working

For the past 30 mins I'm trying to export a step file of a basic component (extrusion and chamfer).
I am able to export step files of much more complex shapes, but not for this one.
I've tried to export it from the web based viewer, on two emails, does not work.
Is it a server issue or some local issue?

Apparently the naming of the part is causing the issue as it contained the character "/" (forward slash).
The bug is repeatable.
Kind remark. If you want to sell a 500$ software, make sure you test it properly. Slowly the Autodesk environment is becoming a joke.

Hi,

Doing without special characters solves the problem.

I still think it should be treated as a bug.
There are manufacturers that use special characters in their naming conventions.
And if you want to collaborate with them, then you have to conform to their standards.
A name is a string and should be treated like so.
Or at least throw an error that the name cannot be used.

On a windows file system you're not allowed to use the forward slash though.

If I try I get this.

That is indeed correct.
But Fusion does not throw any error about it.

Yes I see that now.

Never liked this export dialog, it seems pointless and a waste of time. If you click the icon pointed at below it opens the standard Windows dialog that does give an error if you try using restricted characters. @Phil.E  can this be fixed up, it does come up quite often.

Hint would be nice, but you should actually know that nowadays!

@HughesTooling  Thank you for kindly pointing this out. The only characters that produce this effect in Windows are / and \. But I only tested the characters found in that image you posted.

In most instances the Fusion replaces things like * or < with an _.  Part>name.f3d becomes Part_name.f3d

If there are more special characters that produce a silently failing export result, please comment and I'll add them to the ticket.

@Phil.E  Is there any real need for the Export dialog Fusion uses? In the past Export from the right click menu took you directly to the Windows save dialog but it got changed to this new dialog. At the time I asked about it as it doesn't seem to do anything useful, just hides the Windows save dialog and adds an extra click to exports if you know how to get to the windows save dialog.

When I asked about this before I was told it was so you could also save to your hub but this doesn't work. If you set the file type to STP for example you can't save to the hub and if you set it to f3d you don't get an f3d file you get a copy (the same as using Save As or Save Copy As). Seems like if this dialog was removed and Export took you directly the Windows save dialog you'd lose nothing and the export process would be easier and more efficient.

You can see below selecting STP disables Save to cloud and if you select f3d it just works like Save As.

How are you invoking Export? I don't see any options to save to the cloud in mine.

@Phil.E  Right click on a component in the browser. The Dialog you show from Export on the File menu seems even more superfluous! Way more efficient and useful to just go straight to the windows save dialog. Quite a few times I've clicked Export on that dialog forgetting it just saves to the last directory, which is usually the wrong place.

I mean you click the icon at the end of the location path, it opens the Save As dialog you pick a folder and name click Save and it takes you back to the export dialog where you than have to click export. All seems a waste of time when you could just go straight to the standard Windows dialog.

Thanks Mark. I see it now.

When you see a dialog like the Export dialog, it appears the same in both Mac and Windows, at least that's the intention with workflows like this. It's also enabling a single UI to export f3d, or any translation.

At this time I can only suggest giving us feedback about this in more than just the support forum, you have access to more channels than this. It might help raise awareness of a UI/workflow issue better than in the support forum or via my emails to the team. I've logged it and you can share the report number.
