I would say at this point in time, an SSD what we should all be using. I try not to generalize here but they are affordable and perform better.
- Will Fusion run better on an SSD? Yes, as nearly everything runs better on an SSD.
- But will it have a major impact on modeling performance? To be honest i 'doubt' it. But since you already have it, that is what i'd use. Major impact factors are few, mostly the processor, then likely RAM/GPU.
- Does that SSD meet recommended speeds? Nearly all harddrives manufactured currently are suitable.
What it comes down to is that if I were building a new PC to run Fusion today I wouldn't even consider a standard hard drive as an option. This is mainly because Fusion installs locally in user directories on the C:/ Drive with the operating system and we really need to consider system wide performance over that of an individual application when building a PC.
Performance comes down to removing bottlenecks and an SSD is one of the cheapest potential bottlenecks to remove. And its cheaper still because you have one already.
