Split operation fails with warning that is not accurate; the body _does_ intersect with the split tool

After modifying the original sketch forming the basis for my design, the whole timeline has lots of errors, so I am trying to go through the timeline node by node redoing whatever work needs to be done to clean things up. So far, so good, until I get to a particular split operation. At this point, there is only a single body in the design, and I'm trying to split the body along one of its faces. I select the body, and its face, and when I complete the operation, Fusion 360 gives a warning: "Compute Failed/No intersection between target(s) and split tool."

I am at a loss to understand why Fusion 360 gives this error, as well as how to get it to accept the split operation as I specify it.

Here is what my workspace looks like before the split (note the single body):

Before Split.jpg

Then during the split (note the single body selected as target, and its top face as the split tool):

During Split.jpg

And finally, here is the error it gives:

After Split.jpg

Ironically, even with the error displayed, the body was split into the four parts I expected. I don't know if that's just because the error is spurious and isn't real, or if Fusion 360 has just cached the result from the operation before the timeline got messed up by the editing of the sketch.

I've also attached the .f3d for the project.

Please explain to me why this error is happening and how I can fix it. Thank you!

EDIT: on a whim, I tried creating an offset plane, with offset of 0, using the body's face as the reference, and using the plane to split the body instead. That worked! There seems to be some problem with the way Fusion 360 is dealing with the face as a splitting tool, possibly not extending it even though I have the "extend tool" checkbox checked, and the visual feedback shows the plane being extended.

I have a work-around, but I still would like an answer to the question, both why this happens, and how I can fix the original operation, i.e. using the face itself instead of this work-around I discovered.
