So I have added one document to another as a linked component to be able to visualize the space that it will occupy and then design the surrounding trim, door, etc.  I can add bodies to the parent document in the correct position relative to the linked component, but when I'm ready to commit those changes to the linked component, is there a quick way to move the new bodies from the parent document to the linked component so they become part of the linked component?

No, that is not possible.

Yes, I think is possible. (Been using the software for a couple weeks, and this is my first go at 3D design.)

It is a workaround. Under normal circumstances, you can drag something into a component by selecting a browser item and dragging it over the target component in the browser. Can't do that with a linked component. But you can break the link, move the goods into that component (make sure you bring all joints and reference geometry), then right click on the no-longer-linked component, "export" to a new file. Delete the original component that was linked to in the current design.

If the original component was linked in other docs, BEFORE DELETING the original linked file, you'll probably want to go into all of those other docs and right click on the component in the browser and "replace component" with the new one. Make sure the bodies in the new component are arranged identically to the old one, with respect to it's OWN origin (the component's origin, not the origin of the current design). Everything should replace just fine. But you know...
