Shelling smooth body does not work

Shelling smooth body does not work

Hello Fusion community,

I am struggling with a shell design problem. It is a smooth body, just tangential edges.

I can not shell it by the usual way and some obvious workarounds did not work either.

Could you please have a look at it?

Using the curvature map analysis tool this is not a smooth surface. At all!

One of the reasons is that you are using the patch tool when a loft likely is a much better tool.

Hi Peter,

the only feature I used to create the final body is the loft feature. So I guess there must be a misunderstanding.
The other thing is that I am not that familiar with the analysis tools and used them only to identify discontinuities.
I could not find a certain spot that prevents Fusion from shelling the body. Even in pieces Fusion was not capable of thickening the surfaces and the pieces seemed pretty "boring" to me.
If you are saying it is not a smooth body at all it does not help that much. Could you give me some clues where to start to improve the curvature?

You are right, once I went further through the timeline I did discover that 😉

The splines that you use in general have too way many control points, but particularly the ones you used as rails for the loft.

There are other areas that need improvement, e.g. the round ends are lofts into singularities. I'll have to get back to this later today after work.

In the meantime I'll link to  the Autodesk Alias Theory Builders, so you get a better understanding of what you're actually working with when lofting (NURBS).
