SheerID Verification — education account failure

Hello all:

… suddenly I have to verify that I am still teaching at my institution — fair enough.

Unfortunately, this "SheerID Verification” algorithm is asking for unreasonable things: specifically a date on my employee card.

I’m “permanent faculty", so  I don't have one.

Even worse, I can see the flood of student irritation coming into sight over the pass ...

What now?

Cheers, C

Can you post a screen shot of the dialog box that asks for "a date" on your "employee card"?

Perhaps a general date is sufficient. I don't think anyone at Autodesk will be phoning up your boss asking for your exact hire date.

Regarding student irritation, what are you talking about? Tell me more.

Hi, I'm still here to help. This is something new I'm just learning about. Were you able to move forward?

Hi Colin,

Thanks for your feedback. Autodesk is proud to provide free access to our professional products for students and educators in support of education and we are currently running a pilot to verify users’ eligibility to access Autodesk software with an Education license, which is why you’re being asked to provide proof of employment. I do not believe that it will be an issue that your employee card does not include a date, so please go ahead and upload a copy of it for review. Alternatively, you may choose to upload a link to the faculty listing on your school website, through which your employment can also be confirmed.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you still encounter difficulties.

Just to update this thread. It seems like a faculty ID card that does not contain an end date is not apparently acceptable (I have a colleague who had their ID card rejected). Seems like a needless hurdle and the response email only promised a response within 48 hours with an alternative form of ID which seems very very slow

Hi Phil,

Just found this thread when a colleague had an issue with SheerID. Regarding the student irritation, we ourselves get new students to sign-up to Autodesk within a class environment (100 students at a time) and any sign-up delays/issues mean that students immediately fall behind in the class and get frustrated. We have had issues previously with verifying education accounts and students have got immediately frustrated with us as an institution and 'Autodesk' as a platform.

Regards

Just to be clear: Are you saying that on Day 1 students are not given access to the program as initially a 30 day trial? There should be nothing blocking a student from signing up and using Fusion on day 1-30.

The only problems I know of that block usage are when the verification process lasts longer than 30 days.

Edit: I just tested the workflow and gained access to Fusion (on a 30 day trial while awaiting verification) in about 3 minutes. Please let me know if that is not what you are experiencing.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your reply. On day one we get them to sign up and verify their account as an education account. There has been a few known issues in the past when some accounts will not verify for some reason but all that is in hand I believe. For this reason we have guided students through the verification procedure in their very first class so any procedure that takes longer than 5 mins presents a hurdle for students and they get frustrated. Only getting them to sign up for the trial in the initial session causes us vast untold misery downstream when the 30 days are up, students need to complete coursework and we end up being tech support on an individual basis (online edu tech support is non-existent). At least getting everyone signed up to an edu account right at the start we can head-off any issues when they arise if that makes sense. We're in frequent contact with the education team and we've passed all this on 🙂

Good I'm glad to hear you are working with the EDU team.

I guess it's never too early to learn that sometimes it takes 5 minutes to sign up for something you want to use for years.

Regarding tech support: Have you sent your students to this forum? There is a support page, they can post questions about their projects if they need support outside of account access.

Thanks for your post and apologies for the confusion. You are correct. I have confirmed that for the document review process, the document must include:
1. Your full legal name
2. Name of the educational institution at which you are enrolled or employed
3. A date within the current school term or within the last three months

If the ID doesn't include a date, alternate options for document review include:

1.  Provide a link to the faculty listing on the school website

2. Provide an official letter from the educational institution. You can download an example template from within the FAQ.

Hi Lianne,

Thank you for the clarification. Do you know the reason for this process being 'retro' and manual? Most other education tailored services would normally verify via a working whitelisted institutional email address I guess?

Hi Simon,

SheerID is a leading provider of education verification services globally. Since Autodesk does not require Education accounts to be created using an email address with an education domain, SheerID provide the most comprehensive solution for verifying our users eligibility.

Aside from our Education accounts not requiring an education email address, whitelisting educational email addresses for individuals isn't a solution for us in this case, since it doesn't really provide assurance that the individual concerned is actually still an eligible student. Many individuals continue to use educational email addresses from their alma mater long after they cease to be students and so educational email addresses are not a robust way of confirming eligibility.

I've been experiencing this as well. My education is somewhat self paced due to health reasons so I don't have a graduation date on my documents. I assume this is why my educational license is being denied. If anyone could give me a solution I would sure appreciate it, as I am having to do class from home due to covid19 and already 2 weeks behind on my Revit course.

@sgray538 Could you get your institution to write you a status letter with their letter head?

This is what I did for my validation and it worked well.

As long as it has:

▪ Your full legal name
▪ The name of the educational institution at which you are enrolled or
employed
▪ A date within the current school term

Then that should be fine.

I can make an effort to but right now my school plans to reopen in August so I doubt I will be able to get in contact with anyone.

I did also provide my school ID card that includes which course I'm in and the school year the ID was issued along with my full name.

I've been trying to get the verification working since October. It's now June. I get an email telling me to click the "upload document" button which sends me to my account where there is no prompt anywhere for me to upload my document. Nor, is there any function in the profile or other clickable areas anywhere in the account. Sigh. Please help. Autodesk says it may respond to queries after 30 days. I have 16 high school labs that need this software ASAP.

I did a verification recently but can't remember what came up when clicking the 'upload document' button. Can you maybe post a screenshot of what you get when you do that?

Hi There, Thanks for responding. I just goes straight into the regular
dashboard that you see when you log in. There are pop-ups, no prompts,
nothing that shows me the way to a portal for verification with Sheer ID.

Very strange 😞 Have you tried a different browser? I occasionally have issues on some Autodesk sites with things only showing up in Chrome and not Safari. It's a long shot I know.
