selecting split body for move

I created a body which has a profile with one end a Handle and the other a blade. I realized that the blade part was too short, so I split the body where the blade joined the handle and tried to move the blade away from the handle so that I could then pull the exposed face of the blade back to the handle, with the intension of then joining the two bodies back together. However when I go to the Move Body Command I cannot select the blade part of my split body. What am doing wrong here?

Please attach your model if possible.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Without the model I will guess.  When you were creating the Blade body, you failed to notice, the extrusion created a Join to the Handle body instead of a New Body.

I created the whole thing as one body to start with, and it was only after I realized that the blade was too short that I then split it at the point where the handle and blade section met.

I created a Screencast on lengthening the blade of my crude knife when the model is one body to start with.  I split the blade in the middle of it, the choice of positions is up to you.  Really like to have your model.

Hi, Jhackney1972

Thanks for the demo video, that is exactly what  I was trying to do but when I go to the move command after splitting the body it will not allow me to select either body. I guess that I have some how fouled up in the construction of the original body. I created a profile of half the body looking down on the back of the blade. extruded that, then looking at the side of the body I created a body that surrounded the the rectangular body to create the shape looking from the side and removed that from the original. I now had half the knife split down the centre and used the mirror and merge commands to make a complete Knife.

By the way thanks for the info about "Quick reply" I had not realized that is how it worked.

What happens if I click on "Accept So;ution" does that end the linked posts?

You had already Split the blade from the handle and I assumed the distance you wanted to lengthen the blade was shown by the sketch points.  I finished the Move/Copy in the Screencast to show the process.  I then used the Extrude command to join the knife blade back to the full knife handle.  Extrude can be used on any sketch profile and on any planar surface.  Model is attached.

OK I bit the bullet and undid everything back to the point where I had just half the model, then cut the blade, moved it and extended the face back to the handle and remerged the bodies. Then I just mirrored it again and all is well. I have one body off the correct length. Now I am going to copy it, move the copy over 28mm cut off the blade and model a new blade for the large chopping knife. Why am I doing all this? Well I want to machine a foam board insert on my Snapmaker 2 for the cutlery drawer in my camper van to stop all the stuff rattling around as we drive. It also makes it easy to see when you have left something lying at the washing up station on the site as you will have an empty slot in the drawer. Oh the fun projects that you can dream up when you are retired!!

Thanks That would have helped if I had seen it before I back tracked and did the length fix at the earlier point.
