Section view detail: diameter dimensioning

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi
I need to draw a detail view of cross section of a big diameter ring with small, but complicated cross section area (O-ring grooves, threads,...etc)
May I anyhow dimension it via diameter dimensions instead of annotations?
(For example (attached), how to dimension inner diameter in detail G?)

Or, if I HAVE TO use annotations - is it possible to include variables' values in annotation text?

Thx in Advance

You will probably need to use a leader and text to denote it. The diameter tool is looking for a perfect circle and not a the cutaway edge of one. This would be really cool and i hope it comes in to drawings some day.

Thx, but what about inserting variables' values in annotation text?

It should be good replacement, too.

Also, is it possible to do this like in Inventor:

1. using centerline as workfeature in design, then
2. automatic centerlines in drawing, then
3. dimensioning distance between cutaway edge and this centerline, then
4. hiding centreline in drawing
5. editing dimension (deleting extensionline and arrow on ceneterline's side.

?

Whichever of methods above would be fine because now we have pain in the ass - manual editing annotation text after each change in  design space. 😞

What variables are you talking about? You can insert symbols into dimensions.

That workflow might work but you'll be hard-pressed to find a center line point if the detail does not contain both edges.

I mean parameters.

So regardless to Fusion's inability to create dimension in a detail's partially shown situation, users will be able to have an automatic way of updating info in the detail view.

Hi,

I know it in such a way that the diameter has to be dimensioned in that view, where it is recognized as such doubtlessly.

There is a simple case in your picture, so detail view is not necessary.

If you have BIG ring with small but complicated cross section - detail is necessary and dimensioning (or at least annotating) with automatic update, too.

I would like to see the ability to add dimensions to notes so they update along with the dimension value.  sort of like "hello this is my dimension for this thing  {d35}  or [d35]  this variable would insert the value of that dimension.   This would make it possible to add notes that will update along with the design.
