Section analysis view -- inconsistent line width on screen

I have seen this behavior over some long period of time, and I would like to find out if this is a software artifact or a graphics handling artifact.  (Or both)

When I create a section view through a model, the lines that appear along the section plane outlines of the newly-created surfaces are most often presented with a heavy lineweight, like using a Sharpie instead of a pencil. These lines are also often incomplete at the heavy weight, and show the finer "normal" lineweight in the gaps. Zooming the model will cause the heavy line weights to complete themselves in some areas, or disappear and leave the normal weight part outline in other areas, and mousing over various areas of the section view will often modulate the lineweights in various areas between light and heavy, sometimes "for good" and sometimes temporarily until the mouse is moved again.

I would like to understand what this issue is, and whether I can prevent the heavy weight lines from appearing. Any observations welcome.

Thanks for the link. I had seen that and (sort of) forgotten about it; the explanation is fairly superficial, and it looks like nobody really knows (or cares) about this. I guess I'll be one of those.
