I have a simple part that I want to try 3D printing, using a printer that is located at a colleague's remote location. I have received a .stp file from another colleague who designed the part in Solidworks, and I uploaded this file and opened it in F360. I then tried to save it as .stl using the "3D Print" command in drop-down menu under "File". I saw and made selections in the dialog box, NOT saving to a print utility, with medium refinement selected. I saw a mesh applied, then a directory window appeared with file name as "Untitled" and file format shown as "STL". I saved the file using this window, and then went to the location to check that the file was there. The saved file is saved as type= Certificate Trust List. This seems totally wrong to me, but I have no experience with 3D print files. I did try to open the file and got an error message that this file is unsuitable for use as Certificate Trust List, or words to that effect.
My goal for this exercise is to compare how F360 and Solidworks treat the .stl file, and if there are any printing performance differences between SW format and F360 format. Let me know how I can save the files correctly for this application.
