Running fusion360 on a older computer

Hello everyone, I have been using and learning fusion360 on my dell laptop for over a year. The computer works fine with small assemblies and simulations. But recently I have started to make larger assemblies with many parts and simple commands like joint, takes over 15 seconds to execute, and if I change something in the assembly tree it takes a long time to complete. Therefore I feel like I need an upgrade. Unfortunately in my budget is an old refurbished Dell workstation. I am not a computer person and therefore I am completely reliant on your experience and knowledge to decide my purchase. I am entering my laptop and the workstation specification below for comparison. I hope I would find a solution here.

My current laptop:

CPU: I54200U, base 1.6, Turbo 2.6 GHz, 2Core, 4 Thread
RAM: 8GB, DDR3 1600 MHz

Storage: 1TB, 2.5", 5000 RPM HDD
Graphics: AMD Radeon 8670M, 1GB

Dell workstation:
CPU: Xeon X5680, Base 3.33, Turbo 3.66 GHz, 6Core, 12 Thread
RAM: 2X8GB = 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

Storage: 240 GB basic SSD
Graphics: Quadro k420 card, 2GB DDR3

Sincerely,
Atul

Hi,

The calculation of complex assemblies require time.
My tip:
Before you buy anything test it with your application.

Note:

What Fusion needs is CPU speed.
The number of cores does not help.

Can you Attach an assembly here which exhibits this behavior.

I have often found that the techniques used in creating an assembly greatly influence the behavior and just throwing better hardware at the problem does not solve the issue.

Thanks for introducing this perspective. I didn't know that the way I assemble parts could cause lag. Please let me know how I could attach the assemble tree for you to diagnose. Thanks once again.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?
