Roating features in a sketch, seeing something wierd

Roating features in a sketch, seeing something wierd

Hi All,

I realized I needed to rotate some features in a sketch around Z. I am able to effect the change I want by changing the angles relative to X but what is throwing me off is the light blue field still remains where the geometry was. I've put red arrows aimed at them in the 2nd image. If I highlight the sketch after finishing it I see both sets of geometry. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong?

I have been trying different things for about 2 hours now and figured it was time to ask for help.

Hi,

1. In general, you should not create patterns in sketches, but only pattern with features in body/surface mode.
2. Please share your design

File > Export > save as f3d locally > attach to next post

Hi Guenther, I appreciate the response.

Could please you explain more on your first point or point me at something that explains it? I'm a little new and I didn't realize there was certain geometry I should keep off the sketch. Everything I am doing is extrusions from sketch geometry because that is what I know. I am totally open to the possibility that I am not using the software right.

File attached.

Hey so I wanted to follow up here. I did an experiment and I think this is what you were getting at (correct me if I am wrong).

1. I created a single mounting tab under sketch

2. I extruded it as a new body

3. I added my cuts

4. I used the circular pattern tool in body/surface mode to duplicate the feature around the Z axis

Now everything should be derived from that first tab so if I make changes there, they should be reflected in the rest of the features.

So is this the proper use of the software compared to what I was doing prior?

Is the current file for review the one you are speaking of?

There is no pattern icon in this file timeline or sketch.

There is no right or wrong way to do things in Fusion, just - some things save time and effort.

I saw a pic with 8 of these tabs, but current file has 4.

Consider symmetry as your friend, and I would make this 1/4 (or 1/8) sketch and then pattern the solid model.

Saves dimensioning the same thing 4 times....

Blue sketch lines are going to keep you awake, your hexagon needs a vertical constraint to turn it black, but in your sketch you would need to do that 4 times,

Might help.....

Hi,

I just want to clarify my lack of attention in post #2, without going into the proposal of @davebYYPCU .

sketch pattern vs feature.png
