Unless I'm not understanding well the purpose of "Select through", I'd say there's something broken in the way the selection is currently working.
I just want to be able to select visible faces and edges. Why are all those hidden aluminum profile edges interfering while hovering the mouse cursor?
I tried replicating the problem with a simple box, and now the hidden edges are not interfering, but I kind of have the opposite problem. I can't highlight a hidden edge if "Body face" is also enabled. Take a look at the next two screenshots:
