New bug on version 2.0.13881: "3D Print" & "Save as Mesh" pop-up windows automatically close themselves before I am able to choose a file name and click Save.  This has never happened on any previous version, and was not happening before the last Fusion360 update.  I'm on an Intel Mac.  Cannot export any models to STL now, please advise.

Hi,

I can't reproduce this on an intel mac. Nor is it being reported by others. So the problem is likely on your machine.

Have you restarted your computer? Please try that first.

If it still fails, try the Fusion Service Utility.

  • Use Repair first.

Please let me know how it goes for you. By chance did you once use a network location that is no longer available to your computer?

Yes, have restarted the machine several times. I’ve also fully uninstalled and reinstalled the current version of Fusion. Could this model or project specific?

There is one way to find out.

Create a new design, make a cube. Try to 3D print it. If that succeeds then new data is not affected.

If it is only some older files, please share one with me. You can do so privately via email to phil dot eichmiller at autodesk dot com.

Currently having the same issue if that makes you feel better, didn't start happening until the most recent update 🙃.

I am also having this issue on an M1 mac when trying to save mesh files.

@Phil.E  this issue is now being reported by others as well, and happening across many of my existing projects. What can we do to escalate this to a formal bug report?

Hey Check out this solution , I got mine solved.

"..... there was an issue a number of years ago where Fusion had problems opening file dialogs if the last used location for a file dialog was on a drive that was no longer accessible (e.g. a USB drive or a network folder). We thought the problem had been resolved, but your symptoms match what was happening back then, so it is worth exploring the workaround from the time to see if it helps.

In one of your options files (%APPDATA%\Autodesk\Neutron Platform\Options\NMachineSpecificOptions.xml) there will be a setting called 'LastDirectoryOptionId', and it might be pointing to a location that is no longer valid. If you delete the line that includes this setting and save the file, it may resolve your issue. (Note : Will need to restart Fusion after saving this options file)"

So delete that line in an application like notepad++

@Phil.E   Jordan, thanks for the suggestion, but this is not the same bug.  I only ever save STLs to the same directory, on my local hard drive, and it does not move or get renamed.  The F360 "Save As Mesh" window comes up fine, and it shows the export directory just fine.  AND if I very quickly click the Save button it successfully exports the file with the default filename (name of the F360 Body).  But if I wait more than ~2 seconds or try to type a new filename, the Save As window automatically closes and does not export the STL (does not crash like the previous bug, just closes).

This issue occurs for me when saving to the system drive. If anything, the disappearing save dialogue appears to be -- or at least experientially equates to -- just one more manifestation of the longstanding litany of problems (black windows, self-toggling between spaces, browser overlay artifacts, multi-screen and space window placement, inability to easily resize/dock tool dialogues, etc.) endemic to the unique application windowing approach used by Autodesk on the mac.

I hate to sound negative, but losing my internet connection for a moment has beachballed Fusion for me, so I have a little time to kill before restart/recovery. 😉

Note that I am still experiencing this same bug on the most-recent 2.0.14106 release. I have discovered that the bug only seems to occur when multiple fusion documents are open simultaneously.  If I close all other active fusion files, the Save As modal window will stay open and allow me to name/save the file correctly. YMMV.

@Phil.E Can you please reply and confirm how we get this converted into an actual bug report? It's persisted across at least two releases now.

Usually bug reports are logged when a problem is reproducible. So far, this issue is not reproducible on intel mac, m1 mac, or windows. But my computers are not yours.

You never answered if this happens with new designs. Is it different between these two workflows:

1. new file, make a cube, save as mesh

vs

2. open an older design, save as mesh

Do you get the same exact results in either situation?

Also, you didn't respond if you tried the service utility repair option.
