Project wouldn't save because of license renewal. Is it lost forever?

I spent all day working on a new model. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that my hobbiest license had expired until I went to close up for the night. I'm accustomed to Fusion saving for me as I work, so I don't do it manually. Anyway, even after logging into the website and renewing my license, I could not save. Figuring that the recovery feature would keep my model, I did as the website instructed and restarted the application. Unfortunately, the only recoveries it offered were from the last time I used it - months ago.

Did Fusion's inability to refresh its license info just blow away an entire day's work?

Probably so.  Fusion 360 has an Automatic Save on close feature but since you could not save due to the license issue, it does not work.  Next time you face a situation like this, I would use the File ->Export command and save it to your hard drive before you close the application.

"I'm accustomed to Fusion saving for me as I work, so I don't do it manually".  This is not recommended at all.  Fusion does not "save work for you".  It does periodically store a local crash recovery version, but relying on that is not a good idea.  You should always save your work using the Save command, as frequently as possible.  There is almost no downside to doing so.  Fusion can maintain any number of versions of your design in its cloud storage.

If you have not closed the Fusion session, you can still Export your design as a Fusion Archive design.  This is a good idea if you are experiencing licensing issues.
