Problem creating the bow of a boat.

Problem creating the bow of a boat.

I am recreating a design for a boat from my grandpa's old sketches. My Fusion 360 is up to date and my operating system is Windows 10 home.

I have reached the situation as shown in the picture below.

OverviewOverview

I am now attempting to create a body for the bow of the boat. I aim to continue the body shown above using the existing 3D splines.

I tried using a loft from the existing profile of the hull to the point of the bow but quickly discovered this would not result in the shape i intended. (see image below)

Two Turtle Doves... bow loft 2.PNG

The loft did not use the second rail to the left of center which I do not understand. In addition I realised that any attempt to use the other 2 sketch lines as rails would not work as they do not go to the second profile of the loft (i.e. the bow point).

I have searched and thought about other ways to create the body I want but this was still the closest I got.

Any advice on how best to do this would be appreciated. A link to the file is below.

Hi mub16qsu

I think you're taking the right approach to build this shape, just needs one tweak to get the result you seek.

It looks like your Rail 2 runs from Profile 1 to Profile 2 and back to Profile 1 again.  The loft doesn't expect rails to run back to previous profiles like this, it expects rails to progress from the first profile to the last, and discards any "extra" parts it finds beyond that.  Here's the solution : If you delete your Rail 2, and build two new rails - Rail 2 from Profile 1 to Profile 2 on the left and Rail 3 from Profile 1 to Profile 2 on the right, you should get a better result.

A screenshot of the before and after loft on a example I built:

Good luck with the boat!

Thank you for the reply it helped alot. This is half of the solution. As indicated in the initial question, I am trying to make the loft follow the two sketch lines highlighted in the image below. I realise this is not possible when lofting to a point like this as the sketch lines do not go to the point being lofted too. Can you think of a solution?97D50818-1C8A-4114-B864-512CAA7F423E.png

You were working far too hard.

When you have symmetry, there is a good reason you didn't use it?

Small edit to the bow, you can see what's done, and make the edits to suit

To loft to the bow curves they are required to be independent curves, if that suits.

Let me know if you have questions...
