point refuses to go where I try to put it.

I'm trying to draw a sketch, and the line, point, all of the features refuse to go where I point.  the sketch cursor dances around my cursor, never getting where I need it to go.  then when I try to put my cursor over the sketch cursor, it dances away.  I need these points at exact locations.  not with a huge half-inch error bubble.  

is there a way to disable the autocorrect function so that my sketch cursor places points precisely where I click?

Is your Layout Grid and Snap to Grid turned on?

I don't even know what or where those are. this is day one of me using the system and it's been nonstop esoteric brick walls.
