Partial Chamfer on circular edge

I need to make the chamfer on the attached photo go all the way around except where the fitting attaches.  Can someone suggest a way to do this?

Thanks,

hi @Anonymous ,

thanks for posting!!

i would suggest going back into the model environment, and adding an arc sketch on the top of your piece like the following:

added arc.png

i used a center type arc, and you can extend it as far as you want your chamfer cut to be. Then, in your chamfer operation, choose the sketch of the arc as the selected geometry (you may have to hide the body in order to successfully choose the sketch entities).

let me know if this helps or if you have more questions!

Hi Julia,

Thanks for the quick response.  I wasn't able to make that work.  After I've created the Arc the chamfer tool won't let me select it as an edge even if I hide the body.

hi @Anonymous ,

thanks for your file!! I was able to successfully do this, but I had to create my own chamfer operation and setup as I didn't see any in your file.

perhaps you're creating your setup/operation differently than me? can you attach a file with what you're working on?

thanks,

Hi Julia,

My chamfer tool doesn't look like yours.  Please see attached photo.

Hi @Anonymous ,

ah- I thought you were trying to machine a chamfer, not model one!! You are right in saying that the sketch will not work for creating a chamfer in the model workspace.

What we can do is actually use revolve. To start you can create a sketch that is the size of the chamfer you want. Then, using the resolve tool, you can choose that sketch entity and tell it how far to cut.

hopefully this helps!! i attached the file i worked on here as well.
