Parametric Dimensioning Not Working

Hi.

First, I have been having difficulties with ScreenCast because it wants me to sing in but it does not say that I need to sign into Techsmith in which I have a couple of personal accounts and to which I always have difficulties logging in, but that is a different story; I think I have posted to the Support on this issue and I don't believe I have heard back.

Now to the main issue: occasionally when I want to assign a parameter to a dimension, the formula appears to work but I just can't get out of the dimension field except if I press escape at which time the dimension will revert to being not parametric. I am attaching a video I made of the basic old Techsmith's Snagit, and I have posted the model as well.

What could be the problem with the parameter not being assignable?

Thanks in advance.

I discovered the problem was the fist dimension was a negative 1mm (it was an offset) and I was assigning the same variable to a dimension that was positive, apparently. Changing the parameter name to -gap made it work.
