override WCS not working properly

override WCS not working properly

Hello everyone,

I am attempting to use the override driving WCS function for the first time. I have my override set on the corner of the vise, using G59 to drive it. everything with the program works except when it sets my G54, it sets it not in the center of my block but near the G59. not exactly at G59, just slightly away from it on x and y, but no where near the center of the block. the probe goes to the center and completes the rectangle block cycle no problem, the issue is that it puts G54 at G59 instead of at the center of the block as expected. Anyone else having this issue? I am running a Haas VF-2 (NGC) with Renishaw probe. I have updated fusion, and am using the latest NGC post processor.

Hi @Anonymous,

Hopefully I can explain this ok.

Lets say you want your datum 0,0 to be at the front corner of your block. You have a 25mm hole at X50,Y50.
Your probe will move to X50,Y50. Now it measures this hole and does not set the datum to the center of this hole but looks at how incorrect the actual position is from the nominal. So if it was actually at X51,Y49 it does not set the centre of this hole as the datum it moves the original datum X+1.0,Y-1.0.

So what you are seeing is what I would expect. Have you run toolpaths after the probing? They should all work as they are coming from that corner datum.

Please let me know if that doesn't make sense, I'll think of another way to show it.

Hi Richard,

Thanks so much for responding so quickly, I have been binge watching your fusion webinars and videos regarding this and they are absolutely amazing.

I have just tried a toolpath, and it works as expected. My mistake, I was expecting for G54 to be updated to to the center of the block, and when that didn't happen I assumed something was wrong. your explanation was perfect, and I now fully understand the process (I hope!).

Thanks again for all your help! I appreciate it. I am a former Haas Applications Engineer, now working full time with Haas machines and Fusion 360. If there is any way I can be of assistance to you at any point, I would be glad to help so feel free to reach out.
