One-Year Educational Access to Fusion 360 NOT WORKING

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am an IT professional for a private high school. I have a class full of students who are unable to access Fusion 360 on their Chromebooks EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE VERIFIED THEIR ELIGIBILITY FOR ONE-YEAR OF EDUCATIONAL ACCESS.

Screenshot 2021-03-11 at 9.00.32 AM.png

When they actually launch Fusion 360 on their Chromebooks, the students are unable to save their work, and see a message that their subscription has expired:

I need an immediate resolution to this issue. The students are unable to do their coursework until this issue is resolved. PLEASE HELP! I've tried to reach out to Customer Support, but I've received no response.

I does not. Instead, it says "Get product" - see below:

I Had the same issue and would get the subscribe button only with some students.  To fix i would go to autodesk and login as a student, download the full windows version while logged in as a student.  Then install the software on a windows machine.  Then of course log in as the student.  The subscribe button was no longer there.  Delete install and repeat for next student.  Worked for me!

Thank you so much! This resolved the issue for many of my students! But
this is clearly a bug on Autodesk's part if I have to run the Windows
installer just to make Fusion 360 work on Chromebook ...

I agree, but at least we have some workable solution.  I feel the online version of fusion gets the shaft sometimes.

Hi @Anonymous-

Thanks for sharing the screenshots and sorry for the difficulty you had here. Glad to hear that you were able to resolve the issue.

I'd like to clarify, please, exactly what you were trying when you ran into this issue: Were the students clicking "Get product" -> ACCESS on the Fusion 360 for Chromebooks product card, but that wasn't activating their educational licenses in Fusion Online?

And it wasn't until you clicked the ACCESS button from a Windows machine while logged in as the student that the educational access in Fusion Online worked as expected for the students?

Thanks,

Gabe

Correct, @gabe.anderson, the educational license only seems to work after the student has clicked "Get product" --> "ACCESS" button for Fusion 360 for Windows / Mac, and then running the downloaded installer completely.

When the students originally clicked "Get product" for Chromebook as shown in my screenshot, I don't recall seeing an "ACCESS" button at all! Rather, clicking "Get product" on the Chromebook option would simply bring you to a launch page that looks like this:

Screenshot 2021-03-11 at 9.00.53 AM.png

After clicking "Launch 360," Fusion Online would begin to load. Once loaded, the Expired Subscription message would be shown in an orange box in the upper-right corner, indicating that the education license did not activate properly.

Hi @Anonymous-

Thanks very much for confirming. We're trying to figure out why this happens for some students on Chromebooks, but not for others.

One theory we have is that it might be a combination of using a Chromebook and specific school network security settings that somehow interfere with the button click that activates the educational entitlement.

Are there any additional details you may be able to share along those lines that might be able to help us figure this out? Any restrictions on the school network you can think of that might be related? And are all of the students who were having this issue using the school network vs. trying to click ACCESS from the Chromebook at home?

I'd be interested to know if any of your students are able to activate Fusion Online successfully via Chromebook from home network vs. school.

Thanks!

-Gabe

Hi @Anonymous-

I also wanted to clarify that completing the download of the installer shouldn't be necessary. I think what you experienced was that clicking ACCESS for the Fusion 360 download activated the educational entitlement for students. Yes, the download will begin, but completing it and reinstalling shouldn't be necessary.

I'd also like to confirm, please, if you were able to resolve the issue when you clicked the Fusion browser access card (on the right), which brings you to the Fusion Online launch page, as opposed to clicking the Fusion download card? Or did that not work for you via Windows/Mac machine while logged in as students and you had to click the Fusion download card (on the left)?

We're trying to isolate if the issue, which we suspect is a combination of Chromebook on a restricted school network, is happening with both Fusion product cards, or just one of the cards.

Thanks again. Appreciate the input.

@gabe.anderson Unfortunately I don't have definitive answers to your questions, only a couple possibly related observations:

1) No student reported to me a discrepancy in the behavior of Fusion Online when they launched it at home vs. launching it at school. The school's ability to block content on the Chromebooks while the students are at home is limited. We do have a number of blocks in place on the WiFi network at school, but none specifically targeting Autodesk software resources as I'm aware.

2) For all students I personally helped, I waited for the installer to finish running before instructing them to access Fusion Online on their Chromebooks. There were two instances were even after the installer had fully run, the students still saw the Expired Subscription message on Fusion Online! However, within a day's time, both student reported that the message disappeared and they were able to use Fusion Online without issue.

Hi @Anonymous-

Thanks very much for sharing the additional info.

On #1, for the blocks you mentioned on the school network, are you able to share any specifics with me that may be able to help us isolate the issue?

If you prefer direct message vs. posting publicly here, please feel free to share that way, too.

Thank you!

I'm currently unable to log into my Fusion 360.  I'm stuck in a welcome screen of two pages.  I can only go forward one page, and then the only option available is to "back" to the previous page.  I've used fusion for the past 2 years and recently renewed my student license.  Please advise.

Hi @cmyers3,

Could you please provide a screenshot of what you're seeing and any error message you may be seeing? It's hard to tell from your description what the issue may be.

It appears to have resolved itself about an hour later. It was during the start up screen after I believe fusion had conducted an update. I rebooted my computer several times and even logged into auto desk all to no avail. But after waiting and coming back and trying again an hour later it worked.

The AutoDesk site is impossible. I have gone through the process of getting an education account and was approved. I have an education account. I then went to download Fusion 360, which takes me to a download page. Clicking on "Get a license" places me in a loop. When I attempt to login to Fusion 360 it places me in a trial, even though the site says I have a 1 year education subscription. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion 360 multiple times now. I have gone through the AutoDesk site several times now. This seems to be an issue at AutoDesk. It's unfortunate, I really like Fusion 360 and would love to be able to use it at our school.
