No Sketch Dimensions showing in edit sketch despite show dimensions selected

I created and defined a sketch, I have copied the component to make a another with a few changes, I no longer see the dimensions in Edit Sketch despite the show dimensions selected in the the Sketch Pallet.

When I try to add a dimension it tells me it is over constrained and I can only create a driven dimension.

How do I get the dimensions to show again?

Hi,

Please share the file and say which component/sketch it is about.

File > export > save as f3d on local drive  > attach it to the next post.

It is entirely possible that there are no dimensions in this sketch.  Did you add dimensions?  From the image, it looks like this sketch may have been made by sketching on the face of a model.  If so, the sketch geometry would be entirely made of projected model edges, so would be fully constrained, and also would report over-constrained if you tried to add a dimension.  But, as @g-andresen said, without the model, all we can do is guess.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply and taking a look at this for me, please find the file attached.

It is the Slider Block components I am having the issue of no sketch dimensions.

I produced one and then copied it with intensions to make minor changes to the copy.

I did try a couple of things including making a third copy and deleting one.

Now I have two exact components with no sketch dimension.

Would you be so kind as to assist me in correcting this.

Regards,

Grant.

Yes, my theory seems to be correct.  The sketch in the "Slider Block" component was originally made by sketching on a body that seems to have been deleted.  That is why the sketch here is yellow (warning).  Here is the warning:

You can tell this because the sketch geometry is not shown, even though the profile is there.  Do you recall when that body was deleted?  This sketch never had any dimensions in it.

At this point, you can use "Manage Lost Projections", and choose "Break Link".  This will convert the geometry into "normal" sketch geometry:

this will result in:

and then add dimensions:

Hope that points in the right direction.

I notice that there are quite a few warnings in this design.  In general, you should not have a design that has lots of warnings in it.  You should fix these when they first appear, to avoid getting into that state.

Thanks for your assistance, however I am not able to locate or activate the Manage Lost Projections.

I have attached the file again as I made some changes and are not sure if that is having an effect.

The reason you are not able to see Manage Lost Projections in this version is because there are no longe any lost projections in this version.  It looks as if the link to whatever made that outline has already been broken.  However, the sketch geometry in that sketch is now "locked" (that is why it is green).  So, to add dimensions, edit the sketch, unlock all that geometry, and then you can begin to add dimensions.
