No more capture position feature ? Part changing position when exporting or copy/pasting - ... since last update

hi there,

now that i'm back working on my project after the file corruption bug is solved i noticed another odd feature:

I have a part i modeled inside of larger project assembly. The part was at a 1° angle. Once i roughed out the shape i exported the part to another file, removed the 1° angle and continued to model the part and add other parts to it. Now i want to export the finished part again to another file for manufacturing but when i open the exported part it's back slanted at 1°. So i tried creating a new design and used copy/paste new but again the part comes in at 1° angle. So i thought maybe i forgot to capture position (although that would have surprised me since i've been modeling on that part for a week now and surely would've noticed. But all was alright in the original file. And then i noticed that whenever i move sth i don't get a capture position button at all anymore, even in a fresh file when i create an object and move it i don't have a capture position checkbox anymore nor the capture postion buttons in the toolbar.

Maybe the feature just changed/moved in some update ?

Can't share the file publicly but happy to do so with someone from Autodesk support. But as i said the capture position feature is missing altogether for me now even on fresh designs.

Capture Position is a Assembly / Component command, when History is active.

Might help...

@chrisQX8DX I am able to see both the capture position checkbox and capture position buttons in the toolbar.

As you are observing the issue on a fresh file, is it possible to record a video on a fresh file and post it here?

Thanks @Rushikesh.kadam i didn't see that i had objects and not components selected in the dialog. So the capture position is back.

However i still have the wird problem of that part that when exported from a flat position ends up rotated at 1° when exported or copy/pasted to another fresh file. It's not ahuge issue since i can just rotate it back but it's a strange behaviour.

SOmehow i can't seem to add a screencast inline here. Here is the URL: https://autode.sk/3yUBwx1

You should never rely on a position capture feature in an assembly to position components.

@TrippyLightingusually i don't, i usually model without design history or assemble components. I just wondered wether the capture position thing somehow bugged this file export that's why i thought it was related. I don't understand why the exported or copy/pasted file takes on a postion it once had in another file where it came from. Does this behaviour in the screencast seem normal. I haven't run into this before and i worked my usual workflow.

Are you just exporting a component or the whole design? When you export a component using right click and Export the component's origin is used not the design's origin. You can get around this if you isolate the component you want to export, right click the top node in the browser and Export.

aha, i did not know that. i thought when you right click export it takes the position it has in the main deisgn file it is in.

actually still battling with this from time to time. The Isolate>Export trick doesn't really work for me since it doesn't allow to export as a fusion file but just external formats.

It just seems weird not ot be able to freeze the component position and have an invisible transform attached to it that gets scrapped when you import the part into another design.
