No longer able to get sheet metal bend angle on drawings

Bend angle labelBend angle labelAs you can see in this screenshot, I used to be able to click on the 'Leader' text button, and create labels for my bend angle.  I would click on the leader button, click on a bend center line and the "UP 90.000 R0" would appear parallel to the line.  I could then drag it out and position it with a leader line as shown.

This no longer works.  Clicking on the bend center line, just gives me a leader line, with no bend angle text.  Just a text dialog box where I can enter text manually.  It just seems to have happened overnight...  One day it worked fine,  The next day not at all.  I don't think I had even restarted Fusion, so I don't know it was a software update that caused the problem or what.

This is obviously very important because it makes a big difference whether the bend goes up or down.  It is sometimes difficult to tell based on how the flat pattern was created which way it should go.

Also, in the course of trying to figure out a work around, I noticed that the 'Bend Identifier' table also won't let you select a bend center line.  I've never used this function before, so I don't know if it ever worked, but I can't get it to work now.

I've tried creating just a very simple sheet metal pattern to see if perhaps it was something about my model but that won't work either.

I would appreciate any help with this issue.

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks for posting! I have just tested this function on a sample flat pattern and it seems to be working correctly. See the following screencast:

Could you record a video or send us the link to your design so that we can figure out why it fails?

Thanks!

Sorry for the delay getting back to this, but I've been pretty busy lately.

I've figured out a little more about what's going on here.  The problem seems to be caused by the title block template that I am using.  I found, that if I just create a new drawing from scratch, it will work.

I've been using this title block for a while, but mostly just page two which is landscape oriented.  That's also the default page that gets used when you use that template.  I'm not certain, but I believe that I made some edits to the title block on page one of the template just before the weirdness started.

In the following screen cast, you can see that initially, the flat pattern placed on the drawing will not show the bend angle or allow me to select any bend line for the "Bend Identifier" table function.

Then, placing the same flat pattern on page one will work for both the bend angle and bend identifier.

I can then place another flat pattern on page two and it will work.  I didn't show it in the screencast, but, It will then produce the bend angle even if I click on the original flat pattern on page two  .

I don't know what's going on with the screencast.... I tried.   All I see is "Screencast will be shown here after you click Post"   I've already clicked "Post"

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks for the reply and the screencast? Does this happen for any template or just a specific one? If this is a specific template, could you send me a shared link to download and further investigate it? Thanks!

Hi,

The links to the model, drawing and template are at the bottom of my post.  (The one that had the broken screencast link)

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous,

thanks once again for reporting this. I reproduced the behaviour using your template. The first inserted flat pattern does not seem to be fully recognized as one until another flat pattern is inserted:

I am logging this in with our developers.

The workarounds are as follows:

  • Recreate the used template OR
  • If you want to use the same template:
    1. Create a new drawing using the template
    2. Insert the original flat pattern. Do not use leaders until after step 4
    3. Insert another flat pattern, using Drawing Views -> Base View
    4. Delete the inserted flat pattern immediately
    5. Use leader to add the bend angle.

Let me know if this is usable. Thanks!

Hi,

First I must apologize for taking so long to get back to this.  I was  extremely busy finishing up my project and then once I did have some spare time, it had slipped from my mind.

I also want to thank you.  The solution you provided did work and allowed me to get the bend lines back on my drawings.

I hope that in some way, I have helped to improve Fusion 360.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if I can provide anything further to help debug/analyze this issue.

Thanks again!

Jody
