Newb with a Chromebook

Hi, folk.

I've looked over the Fusion360 system requirements, and it appears that it can only run on a desktop / laptop machine running one of the Big Two OSes. But I'm also seeing mention here and there of a browser-based version.

I lead an alternative digital lifestyle -- my ChromeBook is my computer. So... is it true that I can run Fusion360 in a browser? How do I go about doing that? I see the F360 mobile app in the Google Play store, but the information on that app makes it sound like it's not actually functional for making CAD designs? I'm rather confused, and would welcome any guidance.

You can run Fusion in a browser- you'll still need an active subscription and you are limited to the model environment.

Thank you, Ryan.  That answered my question and got me started.

Hi there,

I came across this 18 month old post while researching if I can use Fusion 360 on a Chromebook.  It seems as though back them it was possible, but now it isn't?  Am I correct, or just hopelessly lost?  Is it possible to run Fusion 360 on a Chromebook on 2020?

Thanks.

No because the operating system isn't a supported OS. And likely the hardware is insufficient.

Does Autodesk have any plans on making Fusion360 available for chromebooks?  Your reach into high schools would skyrocket.  In my school, every student has a chromebook.  Think of that multiplied all around the country!  Onshape runs on any platform, so I think that you could get a version of F360 to run the same way.

Can Autodesk please reconsider bringing back the use of Fusion 360 in a browser? I found this topic out, through searching about Fusion 360 for ChromeOS. Why isn't this still available?

I'm amazed by the lack of support for ChromeOS/Chromebooks in general, as I have a 2017 i7 Pixelbook. This device is certainly not lacking in hardware.

The beauty of working from a browser, is that it isn't dependent on OS and hardware specs. It also isn't dependent on only one physical device to be used.

Cloud computing is absolutely the future!

Google does it now with Stadia, and OnShape has been doing this.

What happens when that one computer dies on me? I would have to get it fixed immediately or purchase a new (most likely expensive) computer. All this, while I'm still not able to continue with my design. And that's the enemy .... DOWNTIME!

I'm also not interested in remoting into that one physical computer, just because it has Windows on it. Plus it's rather silly, if you ask me, to be tied to one computer. Please tell me, does it make sense to have two computers running at the same time, just so I can have the flexibility I'm desiring? I still have the same potential issue as explained above. It goes down, I'm out of luck! I don't even want to think, that if I have to travel, I'm relying on my physical Fusion 360 computer to stay up and running.

Or, give us the flexibility with a browser based solution. Independent of OS, independent of physical hardware specs. If my computer goes down, I can hop on another device (desktop, laptop, Chromebook, smartphone, etc.), login and be on my way. Let us access our projects through something like Google Drive; all users get 15 GB for free. Offer a free certain amount of GB, save files in the cloud, on the same Autodesk server used to run Fusion 360.

So again, I please hope Autodesk reconsiders a browser based solution.

Thank you.
