Moving cursor causes lag

Hi!

So, I have encountered a weird problem. This has not appeared before the last update.

It appears, that moving my cursor anywhere in the Fusion window while some project is open causes huge lag, and task manager reads CPU activity at 100%, thus my computers cooling kicks in hard.

This causes not only Fusion to stutter a lot, but the whole system to lag very badly. The interesting part is though, that panning, tilting or any other mouse movement does not cause any problems, but when just hovering the cursor above the window everything starts to stutter and lag.

Under are my computers specs, which should not cause any bottle necks.

AMD R9 390 8gb, I5 4670K clocked @4.10GHz, 16gb of ddr3, and SSD's

As mentioned, this issue is new, and I have not encountered this before the current Fusion version, 2.0.5677

Hi @l44vi.h4nnula

I saw this same issue in another thread, and for them performing a clean uninstall and reinstall fixed the issue. Can you try that?

If that doesn't work, can you collect your log files and post them here?

Thanks!

Karina

Hi,

Sadly the issue wasn't resolved by uninstalling. Attached below are my diagnostic logs as requested.

Thank you for your help!

Hi @l44vi.h4nnula

Try changing your driver from DX11 to DX9.

Under preferences -> Graphics driver -> Select DirectX 9

Let me know if that fixes it!

Hi!

No, sadly that did not help. I have tried tweaking the visual settings but nothing seems to help.

Thank you for assistance 🙂

@l44vi.h4nnula would it be possible to record this behavior using Autodesk Screencast Recorder?

When you record, I recommend:

  1. Recording the whole desktop due to the nature of this bug, not just the Fusion window
    • unless this is a privacy concern, which is understandable
    • normally we'd ask to record just the Fusion client, because this way we can capture the exact CAD commands you're using; but since this happens just by moving the mouse, seeing Fusion freeze while the OS remains usable is helpful
  2. Disable audio
    • unless you wish to narrate
  3. Enabling Include Captured Keyboard Events
    • mouse events will also be captured, but won't be visible until the uploaded video has processed
  4. When uploading, set it as Unlisted and categorize it as a Bug Report
    • this is optional - the link is what counts

Please note: I find there can be a delay between the time you receive your video URL, and when it's actually reachable at that URL - if the link doesn't work, wait 5 minutes and refresh to see if the video is done processing.

Hi!

Sorry for the late reply. Our timezones don't really meet up well 🙂

As you asked, here is my screencast. First, you can see that the CPU usage is pretty low by Fusion while not inside the Fusion window or the cursor is stationary. I am demonstrating on an empty file first, getting the CPU up to >20%. Then I moved into one of my medium sized projects, where the whole CPU throttles when moving the cursor. But as soon as the movement of the cursor stops, the CPU calms down. This is rather weird, as the cursor is not even making contact with any of the bodies, lines or such in the project itself, only empty space.

First: That's an awesome model

Second: Thanks so much for taking the time to record! It may take a while to pin down the cause, but your video will make it much easier.

@l44vi.h4nnula - a minor update. I can now reproduce this internally with my own model. It seems to be specific to certain hardware configurations when viewing complex models (many components or sketches?), and we're working to nail down the exact cause.

The issue is limited to Perspective camera only. Please confirm if you see this only with Perspective camera.

You can check camera in the Display Settings menu, center bottom of screen.

There is a fix being tested for release in a future update. I can't promise any dates because testing is ongoing, but hopefully soon.

Hi!

I thank you all for your help!

Sadly, I am not home for couple of days, so I can't check the perspective thing. I will try it though as soon as I can, and post the results here.

Hi!

I have returned home, and can confirm that the issue is limited to Perspective camera.

For now, until a possible fix is released, I will be using Orthographic camera.

As for now, I am marking Phil's reply as an solution.

I sincerely thank you all for help, it is absolutely awesome that Autodesk has such an great support team 🙂

Thank you all, +rep!
