Model is Empty Message

Hello.

I am a high school teacher and one of my students sent a link for me to look at his Fusion 360 project for me to look at.

When I go to open the file viewer the message attached below shows up.

When I go to open the file in Fusion 360, there is nothing in there.  The timeline shows activity, but there are not any sketches or components visible.

See attached images.

Any feedback is helpful.

Thank you kindly.

that error just means that there are no solid or surface bodies for the viewer to display.  The viewer does not show sketches, or work geometry.  So, most likely, this design really doesn't contain any geometry.  Can you share the design here?  What happens if you step back in the timeline?  I see a few Delete Face features there - could the student have deleted all the faces in the design?

Hi.

Thank you for your response.

Attached is file and a screen shot of a t-spline error my student shared with me.

Your help is appreciated.

Thank you.

thanks for the model.  Stepping through the timeline is instructive.  The student created a Form (TSpline) feature that seemed reasonable, then went through and deleted it face-by-face.  The easier approach there would have been to just delete the Form feature from the timeline.  The first sketch is empty, so it can be deleted as well.  But, I think the problem you are referring to is with the second Form feature.  It fails on conversion to BRep (exit Form).  To be honest, I'm not sure how this geometry was created, but I found out by doing Edit Form that there are some extra edges in there that are causing the conversion problem.  I could only tell using Edit Form, and trying to move one of the faces, although you can see that the darker edges in the model indicate something weird there.  Once I figured that out, it was pretty easy to just delete those extra edges.  Also note that a block mode display like that, unless you have specifically set block mode display, is another indication of a bad TSpline.  When the TSpline goes into that mode, you should stop then and undo the action that created that problem and try to understand it.

Here is a screencast showing how I was able to fix this model:

Jeff:

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into this.  I am new to the Fusion 360 world and just starting to get the hang of it.  Your explanation and video were very helpful.  I am looking forward to continuing to learn and use Fusion 360. Have a great day.
