Mesh Workspace Selection Bug

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi All,

I've recently upgraded to the latest version of Fusion after a few weeks away.

In mesh workspace I can't do a click and drag to paint or window select if I start over the body. Window selection only works if my initial click is in free air, and I can only "dab" to select with the paint tool.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Barry M

This is normal operating procedure for the function of the selection tool.  It is like this in all environments and always has been.  It cannot function differently because if you click on top of mesh or solid, Fusion 360 thinks you want to select the object you are touching so why would it try and start a selection window or crossing?

Thanks for the thoughts, but I used to be able to paint with the paintbrush to select mesh faces, and use the window tool to select vertices and hence multiple mesh faces. This doesn't seem to be the case any more.

Thoughts?

I will not argue with your memory but I have never been able to start any dragging selection method by starting on top of mesh or solid body so I have no more thoughts.

the mesh environment has changed a bit with the July update.  The default mesh environment is parametric.  In parametric mode, you can only select entire mesh bodies or "Face Groups", because that is all that is parametrically trackable.  However, if you switch over to Direct Edit of the mesh, you can select individual facets, but the operations will not become parametric features.  I will try to record a screencast later today that illustrates, but it will be a couple of hours until I can get around to it.

Here are two screencasts that illustrate Direct Edit for meshes.  In parametric mode, you can only select a body or a face group.  In Direct Edit mode, you can select individual triangles.  You can get to direct edit in 2 ways:

Hope this helps clear up the selection question.
