McMaster Carr won't insert

I am using:

Windows 7  Professional 64Bit

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz

8192MB RAM

inserting McMaster-Carr Component won't work.

I have reinstalled it after clean-remove of the whole program for 2 times and still the same problem.

Using Home Network, Internet connection is totally fine.

Last night, I thought maybe it is just matter of the time. So let it download for the whole night, but still on the same screen with 'downloading' right bottom.

How can I fix this problem? All other funktions except McMaster Carr running without problem.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! It looks like you are having problems downloading a McMaster-Carr component through Fusion 360. I am sorry to hear this.

I noticed in your screencast that the file format that is failing is STEP - have you had success with any other file formats? Please try the IGES, SLDPRT, and SAT formats as well and let me know if any of these work for you.

You also should be able to work around this problem while we investigate it by downloading STEP files from the McMaster website (not through Fusion) and uploading them to the data panel. You can then insert these STEP files into any assembly design using the "insert into current design" option.

I'd also like to confirm if this problem occurs with any part from McMaster, or only with a certain part. If this behavior occurs only with a certain part, please provide the McMaster part number in your next post.

While it may appear that your internet connection is working correctly, I would recommend checking it against our recommended settings for Fusion 360 - a connectivity error could certainly be the cause of this problem. Fusion does need to contact the mcmaster.com server while downloading parts from the website, so please ensure that domain is whitelisted by your proxy, antivirus, and firewall softwares on your system - instructions to do so are included in network connectivity article linked above.

Hopefully this helps! If you continue to experience problems, please gather your diagnostic log files using this procedure and attach them to this forum thread - we are happy to have a look and continue troubleshooting.

Thank you for your help.

I tried: STEP file from McMaster Carr Website download -> upload in Fusion -> Insert a Component into the Current Disign, and it works !

Still It does not work through Fusion.

I tried to Save

Button Head Hex Drive Screws (91239A224)

as 3-D SOLIDWORK, and pop-up Screen says "Unsupported file format! Please try the SAT or STEP format file."

Now choose 3-D STEP, click Save, again shows 'Downloading..' forever as my first Screencast.

I have also tried another component

316 Stainless Steel Washer(90107A126) as STEP file, and got a message from Fusion. I will attach that as a screenshot.

I also attach my DiagnosticLogs.

Thank you again for your help!

I have the exact same problem. After the "Downloading..." bar appears Fusion won't react to any input. When I click something in Fusion I get the "You are clicking an inactive window"-sound from Windows. I noticed that I can regain control over Fusion when following these steps:

1. Right click Fusion 360 in the Taskbar and hit "Close Window"

2. Hit Alt+F4 once with Fusion active.

After this Fusion seems to work fine, the part has still not been imported though. This leads me to believe there might be some invisible confirmation dialog or something. Sadly just pressing Enter seems to do nothing. (Not even the windows sound triggers)

Thought this may be of help during the bug-hunting.

Good hunting to the devs!

What format are you tying to insert?

I tried both SAT and STEP. Downloading via a browser and then importing worked.

Btw. here is the exact part I tried to insert: https://www.mcmaster.com/91420a116

I haven't tried inserting anything other than that particular screw lately. Maybe it's related to that.

Let me know if you need any other information.

Hmm, its not the specific part:

I might have to see the log to see there is an error or message. Can you upload your app logs?

Sorry for the delay.

I just fired up Fusion and tried (again unsuccessfully) to insert a bolt using the plugin. Here are the logs.

So do you ever see a part inserting on screen?

Nope. See video above by justin890512 looks exactly the same for me. Green loading bar appears bottom right and Fusion stops responding to any input except for with a windows sound (see above in my first post regarding this problem).

It sounds like the dialog is offscreen, but even still it should show in the model. I'm guessing that you've testing inserting into a blank model already?

Same problem here. I navigate to a M3 stainless screw, hit the product detail, select the STEP file and I get a green "downloading" bar in the lower right corner of the screen. And everything stops. The only escape so far has been a three-finger salute to Windows and close the program. I can download the model from McMaster, upload it to my data panel and insert it. That works fine. Download from inside Fusion doesn't seem to work. When I manually close the program from Task Manager, it tells me that Fusion is waiting for user input. No dialog box is visible anywhere.
