Maintain timeline of inserted object after unlinking original design file

When I insert an f3d file into my current design, I can access the timeline of that object, when I use 'edit in place'. The f3d in question, contains an aluminium extrusion element, that I want to  use multiple times in the same design, but with different lengths. To change the length, I want to edit the Extrusion Feature. But to have different lenghts, I  wouold have to break the link. But then the timeline for that element disappears and I am no longer able to edit the length.

What would be the best way to go forward? Ideally, I want to be able to change the length of each extrusion profile element in my current design, so that it can be easily adapted to different circumstances.

Break Link does, in fact, copy the timeline of the referenced design into the active design.  You have it circled in your screenshot.  That extrude can be edited to change the length.  What is not working in that process for you?

The picture was from the design file of the object itself, not when it was  imported to another design. But your answer made me look better and now I found the timeline, after breaking the link. Thanks!
