Mac version leaving App Store ?

Just noticed that Autodesk moved away from using the Apple "App Store" for installation and updates.

I have to say that this has me a bit concerned:  I've been a user for close to 3 years (on Mac), and initially installed and updated from Autodesk's site, and always had nagging issues and crashes.  I posted here a number of times regarding ongoing "instability" of Fusion 360 on Mac (over a period of probably 18 months).   I finally (on a whim) nuked my install (one of many times I had done so in the attempt to resolve issues) and reinstalled from the App store instead.  My system has been 100% stable and trouble-free since I did that (including going through numerous updates, all done through the App Store).

I *HOPE* that this move away from the App store, leaving only the Autodesk.com-driven installation and updates does not take Mac users "back" to the problems I was having previously.

Follow up.... following Autodesk's directions, just uninstalled as per AD directions, and installed via the download.

Is there a reason why I now have THREE Fusion360 icons in my Dock?

thx.

I can't speak to the icon problem other than that Iv'e not experienced that (either) but I've used the AD streaming web deploy installation for the last 6 years and have had no installation or stability problems whatsoever over that period of time. This is on a mid 2010 iMac (which still works fine) and on my main work horse a 2017 MacBook Pro.

I've not seen the icon problem either BTW.

@TrippyLighting Thanks for responding.

Just FYI: There is no difference in the code delivered via Appstore and Autodesk servers. Fusion undergoes regular update, crash fixes, bug fixes, and is constantly under development efforts that include stability and robust performance. To compare your experience 3 years ago with today is apples and oranges.

I don't know about the multiple icons issue yet, I hope you can resolve it on your own. Please let us know if it returns, but AFAIK I don't think there are other reports of this.

I've had the "multiple Dock icon" issue on 2 different generation iMacs, and one Macbook, but only when installing from the Autodesk installer route.

afa:  issues 3 years ago.

No... I said I've been a Fusion user for 3 years.  I changed over to installing from App Store maybe a year ago.   Point taken though.   🙂

Fusion 360 does not behave like a good citizen when it comes to Dock icons. App installers should never, ever, ever add things to the dock.

Apple apps don't do this. Adobe apps don't do this. Microsoft apps don't do this. In fact, I'm not aware of any other apps that do this.

I am experiencing sever problems after updates. Not always, but really often.
I have commercial use of the program, I pay for that, and just saying :

"Fusion undergoes regular update, crash fixes, bug fixes, and is constantly under development efforts that include stability and robust performance."

doesn't make any good for me.

I lose time and money when your product is not working.

Is there any way to go back to previous version of 360? I have version 2.0.6032 right now.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I looked at your CER reports, thanks for sending those in. It appears that your crashes are all due to one problem. It's perhaps related to how you stretch the Fusion window across multiple monitors.

Can you try to switch to manufacture space when Fusion does not stretch across multiple monitors?

This is a great example of the challenge we face. You have every right to use your monitors as you see fit, but we have a really hard time testing Fusion on every conceivable hardware setup, yours is a new one for me. I've never seen anyone use Fusion stretched across two windows and also multi view. It's quite ingenious and obviously not something we tested for.

I'll ask the graphics team if they have any advice for you or can fix the crash. It may be really hard to fix the crash if no developer can reproduce it. Sorry for the trouble, please let me know if you can switch to manufacture space and then stretch Fusion out across two monitors again.
