local render stops at "a few seconds remaining" and file not found

"In canvas" render works fine, but when I try to local render, the render thumbnail shows up in the gallery bar, the progress bar moves toward the end, but stops with the message "a few seconds remaining". When I click on the gallery image, a box appears and the message "file not found" displays.  This happens no matter what file I try to render.

Hi @Anonymous

In your description of the problem, you say "...but stops with the message..." Can you share a screenshot the message that you are seeing?

Also, what is the spec of your machine?

Hi Clint, sorry for the delay in answering. I'm 78 and just had my second
covid shot. It gave me foggy brain for a couple of days. Here is all the
information I could gather for you without further guidance.

Also, I previously had a paid subscription, but let it lapse as too
expensive for a retired hobbyist' use. Later found out I could get it free
with some limitations. GREAT. I had the same problem with the paid
subscription, but could cloud render.

Hi @Anonymous did you mean to attach a screenshot, or additional info?

I thought I did according to my "sent mail" file. Did I send it to the wrong
place? I've re-attached them here.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for sending those on. I think that clearing your Cache might sort out the problem. Try the steps in the link below.

Let me know how you get on.

Well, the clear cache didn't change anything on rendering; but, now the
usage message shows 2 files editable (2 of 10 message in upper right
corner), while the only file shown in the data column is the stool file with
a flag that says "read only" . When I click on the flag it shows the
dropdown for enable editing, but will not change state when clicked. I can't
identify which files it thinks are open. None of the files I can see in the
data table will change state to editable. I finally just opened one of the
read-only file and it loaded with the enable/read only flag at the top of
the page by the version number. Clicked on that and the file was editable,
but the flag in the data column din not change. Also, when I closed the
file, the usage message shows (3 of 10 enabled), but the data column shows
all files as read only. What am I doing wrong here?
