Linked Files Into Assembly

I have an "Assembly" where I have brought in 30 separate parts that are linked in the Assembly.

Currently if changes need to be made to the parts I go into the original file and then update the "Assembly" because it was my understanding the link is "one way".

Is there anyway to make the link "two way" so I could make quick changes to a part file in the "Assembly"

use "Edit in Place" to edit the linked design in the context of the assembly:
