Line Tool Stops working In Sketches

I've been noticing this for a while now. When sketching, the line tool will stop working. I haven't been able to figure out what series of actions leads up to it, but most often it is when I click the check box to stop a string of lines. The line tool will still be open. (see screen shot, the tool is still highlighted, and my cursor has the line tool icon saying "click to place first point). But clicking anywhere does not do anything, no new line starts.

You can "fix" the issue by either escaping out of the tool and activating it again, it clicking "x" to toggle construction mode. Doing either wakes up the tool and it works again.

Hi,

As I understand it, this is normal behaviour.
The tool is highlighted until you choose another one or deactivate it by "Select".
But maybe you can create a screencast for this.

This cannot be expected behavior.

When the line tool is active, the cursor gets the line tool icon next to it, so you know it's active. When you hover over a spot it will say "Place first point". After you've placed the second point you have the option to create a second line from that point, or click the check mark in a circle to end that particular set of lines and start a new one somewhere else. Once you click that check, you move your mouse and the cursor will still have the line tool icon next to it, and you get the "place first point" tip when you hover over some area.

Sometimes the above works correctly when clicking the check mark circle. sometimes it does not. When it does not, the cursor will still have the line tool icon, and when you hover you get the "Place first point" pop up, but no matter where you click, no line is started. The tool is still active, but it doesn't do anything. Again, hitting "x" to toggle construction mode seems to jog it into working again.

I tried to create a screen cast, but with screen recording I get other visual glitches, like lines don't show up until I've placed the second point, and the tool icon does not show next to the cursor. I cannot get the bug to replicate with screen cast running, but I can repeatedly get it to work without screen cast.

For whatever reason I can capture and replicate the bug with windows built in screen capture, but not the autodesk tool.

Apologies for the glitchy sound early in the video while it figured out my mic.

Hi,

In the screencast you can see how the process is with me. I enter with "Ecsape" or directly into  "Select" mode.
Also by right click > Cancel this is possible.
However, clicking the green check mark alone does not terminate the tool activity.

I see that, unlike me, the line tool temporarily does not resume its function.

I'm not talking about how to exit the line tool. I want to keep using the line tool, I want the tool to remain active and keep functioning. However it is randomly refusing to continue working as shown in that youtube link.

Hi,

Does this behaviour also occur at low cursor speed?
Maybe this is something for @jeff_strater  or @Phil.E

Cursor speed doesn't appear to matter. I run into this constantly while using the tool, even when I'm not twitchy because I hate recording myself.

Still no response? This bug still exists, and seems to be getting worse.

You probably will not be a response because the function you speak of is not broken, it functions as designed.  Take a look at the short Screencast.  If you are experiencing a different behavior I would look elsewhere for something causing it.  Maybe you have you left button programmed to issue a double click, maybe you have a bad mouse and need to try another.  Something is going on but it is not in the Fusion 360 line tool.

Jack, did you even watch the screen capture I posted?

I'm not confused on how the tool is supposed to work. I am seeing a bug where the line tool is showing to be active, but it will not initiate a new line, regardless of where you click. Let me repeat that to make sure it is clear, the line tool is ACTIVE, but regardless of where you click. free space, point, along a line, doesn't matter, no new line starts. I am not confused on what actions stop the active drawing of a line without deactivating the line tool, that is not my bug. I mentioned the check box so much because it's one of the steps to replicating the bug, click the check to terminate the active line so that you can start a new one somewhere else, and after a few times doing that the tool just stops working.

I have replicated this with two different mice so far, it is not a hardware bug. I can replicate it any time I want, happens almost every time I use the line tool in a sketch.

Same problem! Does anyone ever respond to fixing these problems of giving solutions? Is Autodesk deaf? I read so many posts on this forum that never get solved.

@tpedry04

This is a user-to-user forum, not Autodesk support.

If you see an unresolved issue - you should provide additional information till it is resolved.

I do not recall ever seeing an unresolved issue in this forum (where the OP provides actionable information).

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file that exhibits the issue you observe to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply? Step-by-step I am sure that can resolve any and all issues that you observe.
