Line not allowed to be drawn

Hi,

I drew a rectangle on the top face and rotated 90 deg. Then extruded that rectangle. Next, I rotated back to the top face and drew a vertical line across that face. I then rotated back to the extruded face and tried to draw a horizontal line across that face and the program would not let me do that. Why

Please attach your model so the forum users can troubleshoot your issue.  Kinda hard from just a picture or two.

I have attached the part print. I was trying to draw the area that needs to be removed by creating the whole rectangle, rotate and extruding. Rotate back and drawing a line on the top face. Then rotate back and draw a horizontal line and then drawing a vertical line from the point shown on the edge of the top face . The program would not allow me to draw that horizontal line. Once I got it defined, then I would use the dimension to make the area the correct size and trim off that area.

Thanks, Joe

Is there so reason you are making this so difficult.  If you attach you model, then it will take a very short time to analyze the issue.  As it is you are forcing the users to "model" you component for you.

I get the feeling I am doing your homework for you but here is one way to model the component from the drawing.  Since you did not supply your model, I cannot diagnose the method you "say" you were trying to create it.  Step through the timeline to see how I did it.  Model attached.

I have the '3 view' drawings of a part that is being manually machined at this time. I thought that I could use the Autodesk Fusion 360's CAD section to draw that part and show it in 3D. Then use that CAD drawing to make a CAM program for the CNC mill. I did not start with a 3D model and am now trying to CAD draw its components.  I am having a difficult time with having to do 'simple' drawing things and having the program tell me that I cannot do that. Is there any way to tell Fusion 360 to 'stop' putting restrictions on a simple line and just let me draw. Putting a dimension on a side and then wanting to put a dimension on a line half way down that side, is not allowed because it puts a restriction on the drawing and has to be considered in another way. WHY

Confused,

It is probably your approach.  Did you take a look at my attached model developed from your drawing?  Did it suggest to you maybe a different strategy to model your components.  You need to create your model until you get hung, save it and then attach it to your post.  The users of the forum will help you along.  Pictures and drawings will not help you learn.

Thanks for the help.  I plan on watching, for a second time, a 2 hr. introduction to Fusion 360. You are right, I need to use the forum's help 'before' I get 'so frustrated' with what I am trying. If I find out why it will not work and then plan a different way to approach it, it will go smoother.

Thanks for the encouragement ,
