Limit effects to maintain framerate

Hi

Under Preferences > Graphics there is a function called:

Limit effects during navigation to maintain framerate.

Since some updates ago, this function doesn't seem to function anymore - on neither Mac or Win-version.

When I orbit around, it still tries to render all the effects, causing som lagging. While before (when this function still worked) it would turn off Ambient Occlusion to maintain a smooth framerate while moving around. And turn it on again as soon as stopped moving around. Could we have this function working again, please?

I have made a previous post on this subject when I was still new to Fusion, and before I could really pinpoint what the issue was.

Thank you!

Hi,

I just tested this using Windows, in the latest released build, and find that it works as expected. One way to test it is to turn up the desired frame rate to 99. Does it work better with that setting?

Can you share a design or a video where this doesn't work?

Hm... That's strange. I can't get it to turn off any effects at all, even with the desired frame rate cranked up all the way to 99.

Thanks for checking. Let's get specific.

  1. What OS?
  2. What kind of machine?
  3. Can you provide a screen shot or link to your model?
  4. A video would help.
  5. What commands are you running when this happens?

Sorry for the VERY late reply...

To answer some of your questions:

I'm on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 on an iMac M1.

But what I discovered the other day is that it seems to be related to the Space Mouse. When I pan and orbit using the normal mouse Fusion DOES turn off effects to maintain the desired frame rate. But when I navigate using the Space Mouse it keeps the effects activated, resulting in jerky navigation.

However, the overall performance has gotten better lately. Now I find it acceptable to have "ambient occlusion" turned on when navigating. Before it was unbearable. But it would be even nicer to have the effect turned off when using the Space Mouse as well. I don't know if this is something on your side or to do with how 3D Connection's software communicates with Fusion.

Thanks for the update.

I'll follow up with the 3Dconnexion/orbit issue. There may be more work to do in the macOS implementation of their drivers (on their side or ours).

As for general performance, we are always working on it. The performance team adds fixes for graphics, assembly, sketching, CAM, pretty much all workflows, in every release. Over time these incremental fixes add up to a better default experience without any special effort on your part. Glad to know it's working better for you.
