Left > Right selection: Aren't I selecting more than what I should?

Hey so I'm trying to select the faces that make up some text. I'm not trying to select every single face that makes up the body.

 

So I've elected to drag left > right with my mouse. According to this link: "Click and drag from left to right to select objects that are entirely enclosed by the selection boundary".

 

As shown in the below video the only faces entirely enclosed by my selection are the faces that make up the text.  Everything else selected was not entirely enclosed by my selection window.
