Joint glitch

Want to report a joint glitch, and in the process also found a glitch with the screencast software.

As you can see in the screencast, I try to join a component to a 3D sketch and the preview shows correctly, but when I hit OK the component jumps to a random location.

When trying to capture this with screencast the joint origin preview disappears, and my cursor also glitches / disappears at times. Tried this several times and it only happens when screencast is recording.

Please attach you model so the forum users can take a look plus Autodesk Personnel will probably like to take a look at the model as well.

It looks like you were trying to use a Joint between the end of the beam and a sketch point instead of an origin point on the beam.  You supplied model shows the beam in place without issue.

Yes, I was trying to join the beam to a sketch point because there is no other joint origin at that location. That works fine most of the time but had this issue a few times. In every instance I was able to get it to work by doing the same thing on the opposite end of the beam. Just want to report the glitch.

One of the tricks I use to apply joints to a set points on a continuous part is to edit the component and add sketch points at the intervals I need.  Then I either add Joint Origins using these points or use them directly when placing the required Joint.  It makes quick work when the default joint origins are not enough.

That's a good idea, but in this case it may create issues when making changes. I'd like to be able to change the dimensions of the 3d sketch (length, width, height) and all the components update accordingly. If I start adding joint origins to individual components, I may have to edit all of them each time I want to make a change. I could use parameters and equations to maintain the intelligence, but that's starting to become more work than just following the 3d sketch. 3D sketch is a simple solution and it kinda works, just need to get rid of the glitches. There are more glitches as well, I need to start reporting them when I run into them.

Hi,
No 3D sketch is required for such constructions.
As @jhackney1972 mentioned, it can be helpful to set Joint Origins, especially if you are not familiar with joints or if you need to work with T-sections.

Yes, I know a 3D sketch is not required, it's just the method I chose. Setting joint origins in individual components is a viable method as well, my only point was that the software is not behaving the way it theoretically should.

Hi,

If I realise that the result does not meet my expectations, there maybe  2 reasons. Either the function is faulty or I have not implemented it according to the developers intentions.

I use these joints in many ways and have not had any unexpected results after getting used to them.

@g-andresen

This is clearly a glitch in the software, just trying to report it so the developers are aware.
