Issues with Extrusion

Hi, for an assignment in school I am attempting to extrude an object as depicted by my professor's instructions:

However that dropdown menu does not have all the same options for me.

I have done it multiple times, my professor has tried it multiple times, deselecting chaining does nothing and none of my friends are encountering a similar issue. I am running it on a MacBook Pro and it should be the latest version.

Any ideas?

Looks like you are on the Surface tab, which will make surface bodies.

Your instructions are showing Solid bodies.

Try using the Solid tab, then using Extrude.
