Issue with axis using revolve

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi everybody,

I have another one for you:

Using revolve if I select an axis that's not on the same plane as the selected profile then the profile is spun around one of its edges instead of the selected axis. BUT if I set the angle back to zero and rotate the view a bit it magically starts working correctly. Sometimes the angle is reversed though.

See attached srceencast!

Thanks in advance!

Well, this page didn't like it's own URL to the screencast and it removed it....

So here it is again!

Edit: After posting this the screencast showed up on my first post..... It is a weird day today.....

Hello @Anonymous

I've tried the same way several times but couldn't find any issue from my end. May be it is something from specifically your software. Would you please try extrude a rectangle this time and revolve it again?

Hi!

Thanks for getting back to me!

I've tried to extrude a rectangle from a sketch and then revolve a face but got the same result. I can record a screeencast if it helps but it will look the same.

Is the revolve axis is moving from there or it is still there and you are getting the weird result?

You mean the selection? No. It never moves. The same line stays selected that I select in the beginning and that line doesn't move either if that's what you meant.

I was just playing around with a box and noticed that I don't need to change the view in order for the axis to be correct. If I set the angle back to 0 and move the mouse a bit so the angle slider (I don't know the correct term) goes unselected and then try to spin the object then it starts to work right. I record a screencast to make it more clear.

Edit: Well, it seems like it doesn't fix itself after all... If I click OK it jumps back to the wrong axis. See screencast!

@MoshiurRashid, you mentioned that you could not recreate the problem on your computer. I went home and tried it on my other machine and the issue exists there as well.

For reference:

Machine #1: Intel i7 with Nvidia Quadro

Machine #2: AMD Ryzen with AMD Radeon

Both machines run up-to-date Windows 10 PRO 64-bit

I just tried the same on a coworker's machine with his account and same issue exist there as well.

If I revolve a face of an object or a sketch around an axis that's not in the same plane as the face then it revolves around a different axis instead of the one I selected.
